Ferryman, Ferry the Soul

Guide her soul across the river
Show it the way, light the path
Keep it safe and free from wrath

My boyfriend’s best friend’s mother died the other day of a rare disease. This little prayer popped into my head today while thinking about it.

Odin was thought by many to be a psychopomp–a ferryman of the dead. He had the ability to travel to Helheim and back without Himself being dead (though it can be argued that He died while hanging on Yggdrasil, pierced by the spear), and so it was thought that He could use that ability to lead the dead to the land of Hel.

I’m sorry for his / her loss. 😦
The prayer is lovely though, short and sad, but sweet, too, somehow
